Day 19,793

OK… let me think.

What kind of message do I want to leave to my future grandkids today.

Don’t get too hung up on being a sports fan. Your team will eventually let you down.

I’m a bit grumpy.

In professional football, the team I adore, the Kansas City Chiefs, started off the season 5-0.

We were sitting on top of the world. Everything was going great. Our quarterback had not thrown a single interception on the year.

Sadly, I guess I root for a team that peaks in September.

Playoffs are in January.

Yeah, that’s not a great combination.

My Chiefs have currently lost five of their last six games.

Needless to say, the quarterback is no longer getting a whole lot of support for the most valuable player, ya know?

Sometimes it’s not so much the sheer fact that they’re losing, it’s also the teams they are losing to. Chiefs started off by beating two teams that are the top of their conferences. Now we’re losing to teams that are coming in with one win. It is very frustrating.

At least I have basketball to fall back on.

Yeah, I know, I shouldn’t get too hung up on sports.

Can’t help it.

Hope I get a chance to see you guys play.

Seriously.

That’s not a sports thing.

That’s a family thing.

Love you.

Peace y’all.

Day 19,792

Let me take quick little inventory of time and place. According to my calendar, it’s November 25, 2017, the first Saturday after Thanksgiving, and I’m writing a little note to my future grandchildren about the state of the day.

KU finished their football season today, getting crushed by Oklahoma State on the road by a score of 58-17.

Man, it sucks when your team has a bad season. That’s a 1-10 season. We’re really bad.

In other news, I’m contemplating the construction of raised planters. I want to do some gardening at the new place, but my back is a bit of a mess, so I think planters raised about 3 feet off the ground or so might not be such a bad idea.

(Right now my beloved is sawing some serious logs in a recliner. I’ll try to keep focused. 😉  )

I’m also thinking about the construction of the ultimate workbench with an integrated table saw and router table. The real trick, I think, is to get the fences lined up to accommodate both major tools and their respective fences.

I’ll get it figured out.

I’ll probably get my bench and gardening situation figured out well before the University of Kansas gets football figured out.

I have better access to tried and true plans.

Peace y’all.

Day 19,791

OK… it’s the day after Thanksgiving. Here at Casa del Bobster, we typically have our own Thanksgiving the day after the Thanksgiving gathering in Clay Center for any number of reasons, the primary reason being that we like to have our own batch of leftovers to rummage through after the holiday.

If there is one reason to have a turkey on Thanksgiving, it’s the leftovers.

There are few things on this planet that taste great for lunch, dinner, or late night snack like a turkey sandwich on fresh bread with some mayonnaise and a glass of milk.

I just had one.

I think I’m going to have another.

We are blessed, and we have so much to be thankful for.

We have the new house on the horizon. We have good kids, all achieving some great things academically (ok, they’re doing pretty well. I’m not going to blow smoke up anybody’s backside saying everybody is pulling straight A’s, but they’re doing OK… and everybody’s healthy, so there’s that).

I’m planning a new workshop. Lisa is planning summers by the pool.

We’re all planning the future that looks so very bright.

And my grandchildren will be a very welcome part of it .

Oh, and KU won a basketball game tonight, so that was good.

Peace y’all.

Day 19,790

Greetings to any and all that decided to inflict my blog entry upon themselves today.

It is Thanksgiving, the 54th Thanksgiving I have enjoyed on this planet. It was an experience.

I worry about some things, like the health of my dad. It’s hard to see some of his physical struggles. The man is 75 years old, and he’s been through a lot. Mom is doing pretty well, but she has her fair share of challenges.

My brother Tom is a blessing. He lives with my folks and has made some sacrifices to look after them.

My brother Dan has his own family, and it was great to see him and his daughters, Taylor and Morgan, today for the Thanksgiving holiday.

We gathered at my sister’s place, with her husband, Sean, their three kids, Logan, Keegan, and Raegann. I probably misspelled somebody’s name in their somewhere… forgive me. There is a reason my folks called my ‘Bob’. I think it was in anticipation of dyslexia.

Sean’s brother, his wife, Marta, and Marta’s sister, Maria, joined us this year.

Also, my sister invited a co-worker of hers to join us, and she brought her four kids. Her husband is deployed to South Korea at the moment. Traci did a good thing inviting her to join us.

We have a lot to be thankful for this year. I am very grateful. Too many things to mention.

I hope you had a good Thanksgiving as well.

Peace be with you and your family.

Peace y’all.

Day 19,789

It’s been a day.

Crazy day.

Looks like Gramma and I are buying a house.

Crazy, exciting change that will affect my three kids directly, might influence the next generation as well when they come to visit Grampa Bob and Gramma Lisa at their new digs.

I look forward to welcoming our friends into our new home, hosting a barbeque or seven, and having a game or two out in the garage.

To be completely honest, I’m just kind of mind-blown about the possibilities with the new place.

It’s a crazy time.

New digs, new opportunities.

I’m going to need a bigger lawn mower.

Gracie is really excited. She’s making all sorts of plans for the second floor of the barn. Turning that into her own personal living space as a design project. It will be a good experience for her as an architecture major.

In the meantime, I get to try an plan out the ultimate woodworking workspace on the first floor of the shed, while still accommodating the other necessary features.

It’s a real exciting time.

Pond. Pool. Shed. I’m thinking about elevating gardening platforms for my tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, and onions. A separate platform for my strawberries. Maybe a spot for some more exotic potatoes and other veggies.

The possibilities are limitless.

Time to turn the page and start a new chapter.

Peace y’all.

Day 19,788

Hello, future!

Eh.

That sounds a little weird. I don’t think I’ll use that opening anymore.

Greetings from the past, future descendants!

Boy… that sounds a little stuffy.

Nevertheless, here we are.

Paperwork signed and filed. Now the back and forth begins until we settle on a price and a closing date.

As of today, all of the kids are home as we anticipate the Thanksgiving holiday. Bonnie, Dane, and I are going to binge watch the second season of “Stranger Things” tomorrow. I might get out and drive a little bit tomorrow, see what the holiday Uber traffic is like.

After that, Thanksgiving in Clay Center on Thursday, Black Friday shopping and driving on Friday. Saturday will roll around and it will be time to start thinking about boxes. And packing. And moving.

I know this is real, I know it’s happening, but I have never liked moving.

I have always had a negative inclination towards changing addresses, and I haven’t had to do that in a while.

But it’s real.

It will be OK. More space, more opportunity, more of this, that and the other thing.

I’ll keep talking to myself, and fake it til I make it.

Peace y’all.

Day 19,787

Wow.

That was a Monday.

Got a lot of things done. Met with an insurance adjuster to talk with them about our roof, went over to the roofing company to get our new roof on the schedule. Got a bit more done, and this old dog is weary.

And we put an offer on another house… I’m hopeful. I have to confess, this housing prospect is quite exciting. I get a little space for my hobbies, Gracie gets a little space to play with.

A pool.

A pond.

I get to drop Caddyshack lines on my friends. I think I’ve already blogged about that part of it, but I’m not going to worry about any guilt on that front – that kind of joke gets to be repeated over and over again.

I’m still kind of stuck on that stocked pond in the backyard. Something like that could be a lot of fun for the kids.

That could be a fun nickname for the place.

Just have to have all the little things fall into place.

It’s a slow time of year for real estate, and agents want to get some things done.

We’re hoping to help out on that front.

This house has all the needs and most of the wants.

We’ll have to see.

Peace y’all.

Day 19,786

It’s been a bit of a crazy day around here.

OK, I’ll admit this is really kind of bugging me as a sports fan… the Chiefs are really stinking it up right now. They started off 5-0, and have now lost 4 of their last 5, now sitting at 6-4. Still leading the division, but, dang, they sure aren’t playing like a first place team right, now.

Then, after the braincloud the Chiefs laid in the Meadowlands, we go out to see the house.

I like this house.

I really like this house

Has all of our needs and most of our wants. Needs some work out in the shed, but it looks like it’s manageable.

Gracie is already drawing up plans on what she wants to do with the Smallville loft out in the barn.

There’s a pool. There’s a pond. The pond was last stocked in 2016.

This could be a lot of fun.

Of course, I’m not looking forward to the moving part, but this move addresses any number of things that need to be addressed.

And, hey, the KU Jayhawks are playing basketball a couple of times this week.

I need to stay focused on the positive.

Things are going to start changing real fast.

Peace y’all.

Day 19,785

Hey gang. It’s me.

Obligated to get two hundred words in.

Today, was a bit weird.

Apparently, during the coin toss, KU refused to shake the hand of the OU quarterback, a leading contender for the Heisman Trophy this year.

I find that rather curious. Makes me wonder what was said leading up to that. I’d like to know. I’ve heard rumors, but the reality is there are some questions to be answered.

I prefer good sportsmanship.

That said, if there was some jackassery on the side of the Oklahoma player, I’d like to know what it was. The truth, not some half-baked version of the truth.

KU got their butts kicked. Baker Mayfield played a fool on the sidelines, grabbing his crotch, and yelling profanities at KU’s bench.

KU’s football team is disappointing. I don’t think it will get better anytime soon. More likely see the end of college football before KU has a decent program.

But other than that, how was your week?

I hope I’m around in the future to talk to you about those things. By the time we meet, I’ll likely be pretty old and broken down, with bad vision and even worse hearing.

TIme will tell.

Be a good sportsman. Don’t talk trash. Act like you’ve been there before when you do something good.

Peace y’all.

Day 19,784

It’s a Friday night here in Larryville, and kids, Grampa is tired again. Kansas is on the TV, playing host to the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State.

It is not going well for South Dakota State.

Gramma is tired, too, and one of these times I’m going to embed a little video of your grandmother sleeping in the chair, just for posterity’s sake.

KU up by 32. 4 minutes, 36 seconds left in the second half.

KU might hit the century mark tonight.

Might not, too… they’ve put in some subs, and they’ve taken their foot off the gas,

Gramma and I have been hashing stuff around a bit today, focusing on the stuff that needs to be addressed between now and whenever we have to move, hopefully into a proper home.

It’s an exciting time, it’s an aggravating time.

I hate the uncertainty of it.

I could talk about the world a bit, or the state of the nation, but the reality is, not much has really changed, except for the idiot in the White House making a fool of himself on social media.

I’ve about had it tonight, though. I think the turtle pie with the caramel and whipped cream might be about to do me in.

Carb overload.

Hey, be nice to your parents and siblings, and go sneak grampa a beer.

Love you guys.

Peace y’all.
