Day 20,061

I’m here at the office in Leawood, getting my blog entry in before I call it a work day. After this, I have to run back over the car dealership to get a couple of pieces of paperwork signed for Gracie’s new GMC Terrain, which she has named “Pooky”.

I have four students in my class, two on-premises, up from Pittsburg, Kansas, one remote out of Chicago, one remote out of Texas. My remotes are still working on labs, but I have a feeling they’ll be getting wrapped up pretty soon.

I need to think about dinner, and I have to be conscientious about Lisa and my new weight loss program. I think I was supposed to watch a video or something… yeah, that hasn’t happened yet. But, I am going to stick with weight loss methods that have worked for me in the past, so tonight will be some chicken thing, maybe a cauliflower dish on the side, and another vegetable.

No bread for me.

There are going to be some tough decisions, though. I love popcorn, I love chips, but I know those aren’t going to be very helpful in achieving my goals. The main thing, as always, is getting moving. The more I walk the better off I’ll be.

One day at a time, one decision at a time.

Peace y’all.

Day 20,060

9:33 on a Sunday night in rural Douglas County. It’s rained most of the day, and we are grateful for it. It’s kind of nice when I can look out to the pond and see that it’s up a foot to eighteen inches in the last few days with the much-needed precipitation.

It’s been a weird sort of Sunday. Went to late Mass. Pondered the concept of God having a gender. One of those things that make you go “Hmmm…”.

Got a few other things done around the house, and I still have some clean clothes to put away.

Made dinner, kept it simple, just grilling some burgers. The rain gave me a little bit of a break. After that, Dane and I went out and jump-started his car, which I then jumped into and rand off on a milkshake run at Sonic on the east side of town.

Looking forward to an interesting few weeks. I have a three-day Office 365 class this week, then prep for two days, followed by two consecutive prep weeks. I’ll then come back after the week of Labor Day and teach two weeks of back to back Microsoft Exchange 2016. I probably ought to nail a certification exam while I’m out of the office, working from home.

Tomorrow I still have to run by the car dealership and sign a couple of things I forgot.

After that, I’ll make dinner… maybe some pork loin and pineapple cream cheese finger sandwiches?

Those are always nice.

I hope your life is going better than you deserve.

Peace y’all.

Day 20,059

Good evening my future descendants! It’s a Saturday night in rural Douglas County, and there is much to celebrate!

Gracie got a new car!

The single best thing about this event is that I don’t have to worry about getting Gracie a car again!

Or something like that.

Gracie didn’t have what I would call reliable transportation. That has been addressed.

Bonnie has always been so cool about her car. She inherited the car I drove for a year and has never said a negative thing about it.

Dane is going to be driving Ozzy (the 2003 Honda CRV) for a couple of years now already, and he knows he won’t be getting a new set of wheels for a little while. He’s cool. Lisa and I will do the best we can to get him into a better driving situation as soon as we can.

I’m not going to lie, I’m a little jealous of my daughter’s new wheels.

I know that someday I’ll have to move towards reliable transportation as well. In as much as my 2009 Ford Flex has been an exquisite chariot for me, one day she’ll fail.

And then it will be my turn to think about a new set of wheels.

But until then… have fun Gracie… you and your new GMC Terrain…”Pooky”.

Peace y’all.

Day 20,058

OK, it’s Friday night in rural Douglas County, and the Chiefs have won their second preseason game 28-14, so I’m not in a bad mood at all.
It’s kind of nice to know that regular season NFL and College Football are just around the corner.
Had to get the Flex into the garage today. The brakes had been feeling pretty mushy all week when I was driving it, and today the Brake Fluid light came on, so I rand her over to my mechanic and they let me know that the brake line had been cut and was spurting brake fluid all over the place.
So, they guys told me they were custom ordering a part, and they’d get me back in the good graces of the driving gods tomorrow, coming in on a Saturday to make sure I had wheels for the weekend and next week. I’ll still get back with them next week to take care of my front brakes and my oil change.
I am blessed with good mechanical help.

I know I’m supposed to be focused on getting to my literary goal, but the truth of the matter is, Lisa wants me to join her out in the pool, so I’m going to go do that. I don’t spend as much time in the pool as she would like, but hey, it’s Friday night, and it’s just the two of us.

Time to go do that thang…
Peace y’all.

Day 20,057

Hello, greetings, good day to my future grandchildren. Fat old Grampa Bob coming back to you this fine Thursday night in rural Douglas County.

It’s been an odd day, but a day with some historical significance.

Aretha Franklin has passed. She was an incredible voice the Queen of Soul.

One of the trivial aspects of her passing is that she passes on August 16, the same day Elvis Presley passed some 40-odd years ago.

There’s been an ongoing memorial on the Don Lemon show tonight. He’s been a mess, as apparently, he was rather close to Aretha.

So, I find myself stopping and pondering the artists and leaders that I respect, and those that have passed recently, and I’ll think about those that have had the greatest impact on me.

Aretha.

She defined an entire genre. She was a genre. Somewhere at the intersection of gospel, blues, and immortality.

Day 20,056

It’s Wednesday night in rural Douglas County, and I am thankful for the safe return of my wife and daughter from Wichita.

Granted, these days, everybody is thankful for their family member’s safe return from Wichita.

We moved away in 2001 and I’m glad we never looked back. There was some pretty nasty stuff happening around Wichita back then, and it wasn’t something we had to think about a great deal.

Lisa had to go down to Wichita today to provide expert testimony in a patent case. Gracie went along and hit a number of quilt shops while Lisa was busy.

I asked whether she had a chance to drive by either of our old residences, and the answer was as I expected – no.

Back here I tried my best to keep the beats occupied – Freya, Lucy, and Colby…and Dane. Dane is the easy one, give him a cell phone and feed him. The dogs can be a little more challenging.

Where does the time go?

Peace y’all.

Day 20,055

It’s Tuesday night in rural Douglas County. My beloved is getting me a bowl of ice cream, my favorite, chocolate chip. I do have a weakness for dessert, especially ice cream.

On the 20th of August, we’re tackling a new weight loss program… (ok, for a moment there I mistyped the word “pogrom”… look that word up, it might make my blog entry funnier.)

Tomorrow Lisa and Gracie are heading to Wichita. Lisa has a little bit of a court date to testify as an expert witness in a patent case. Gracie is going along to drive, helping Lisa getting prepared to testify. Can’t say anything more about it really, but by the time you grandkids get around to asking, I’m sure your grandmother will be happy to tell you the story.

I’m going to get some things done around here tomorrow, addressing needs with the growing pile of laundry on my side of the bed as well as the growth spurt displayed in the yard with the rain we’ve seen of late.

I’ll take Dane out for lunch tomorrow, his last day of summer vacation, prior to starting his senior year of high school. Hard to believe it’s his senior year. He’s a good kid, and I hope some things fall into place for him this year.

That’s all from me tonight.  I hope your day is blessed.

Peace y’all.

Day 20,054

Eight o’clock on a Monday night, and I’m just kind of kicking back writing my blog, wondering if I should go out to the pool.

I sometimes like going out to the pool at night, but there won’t be any stars out tonight due to the overcast skies.

Eh…

Not a whole lot of news to worry about sharing right now. Trump is on an extended vacation, mostly playing golf and tweeting about this or that moment of idiocy. His lapdog, Guiliani, has been contradicting himself on the various news channels.

I tell you what, if I ever wanted to lower my credibility, I’d hire Rudy Guiliani in a heartbeat.

KInd of funny. My daily writing pledge is two hundred words per blog entry, but right now the little counter that lets me know how many words I’ve written in a single entry is just sitting there at zero, each new word being treated as vapor without any weight whatsoever.

Tell me that isn’t a metaphor?

I’ve got Gracie’s car going in for work on Thursday, Lisa heads off to Wichita on Wednesday, I should think about going into work later in the week, too, to get ready for next weeks class.

Even when there are down times, you still have to get stuff done.

My life story.

Oh, before I wrap this up… I know… I need to get to two hundred words, but that damned little clicky counter thingy isn’t being a friendly teammate tonight.

You better think… think about what you’re tryin’ to do to me…

Damn.

We’re losing Aretha.

That sucks.

Y’all listen to your parents now. Listen to them, find out what kind of music they likes when they were growing up.

Some music transcends.

Peace y’all.

Day 20,053

O, so tonight Lisa and I are watching a CNN “History of Comedy”, and tonight’s episode is “Gone Too Soon”. It probably didn’t help that I started off the evening watching Robins William’s first appearance on the “Tonight Show” at the beginning of  “Mork and Mindy” ‘s fourth season.

I was in tears remembering how Robin Williams made us laugh.

So now I watch this show, and I get to relive moments laughing at some of the funniest people that ever lived.

There kind of a thing about comedy. It draws a particular kind of talent, someone that can be funny because they know we all need it.  They understand that there’s a shadow over everybody’s shoulder.

I might have a hard time finishing this tonight.

So much talent. Such tragic endings.

So, they’ve covered Mitch Hedberg, and Freddie Prinx. They covered Phil Hartman, and John Belushi, and John Candy. They covered Gilda.

I’m going to go to bed thinking about the gifts these people had, and all of the great stories, and jokes, and bits that were left on the table.

Too many good bits left on the table.

I miss them.

A part of my heart hurts when I think about those that have passed.

Peace y’all.

Day 20,052

Hey everybody… not a real exciting day here in rural Douglas County. I stayed around the house for the most part, primarily due to vehicular issues. My car had a bit of a problem yesterday when we went to put on new tires. Looks like there was a problem with my brakes and calipers, and then after they got parts, found out one of the calipers was problematic, and now waiting on parts that won’t be in until Monday.

Ugh.

There might be a little light show late tonight. We’re moving through the Perseid cluster, so we’ll have a few meteor storms tonight and for a couple more nights. We should have good visibility starting around eleven o’clock. What better excuse to head out to the pool on an August Saturday night?

I’m at home this next week, but I have plenty on my plate. Car situations that need to be resolved, some school stuff left over from last year, and a few things that need to be tended to around here. It’s crazy how quick this summer is going by.
Man is now able to simplify this complicated http://cute-n-tiny.com/tag/babies/ buy cialis problem through a wide range of treatment available in the market.
