Day 20,081

Hello, future people… some of you might be the grandchildren I hope to have one day, others of you might be investigating something I haven’t done yet.

I have to throw in some lines like that every now and then for the drama. Gotta keep you all on your toes.

It’s been a good day. Got some mowing in, watched some football, made dinner, and now I’m with you.

At least for 200 words.

Today the Kansas City Chiefs opened their 2018 campaign with a road trip to the Los Angeles (formerly San Diego) Chargers. The Chargers were favored over the Chiefs by a field goal. The Chargers received the opening kickoff, went three-and-out, then punted… to Chiefs’ returner Tyriek Hill… and he took it to the house. The Chiefs pretty much controlled the game the rest of the way, giving up a few pity points late.

I like it when my football teams win.

Still, I wonder about the game. It’s a wonderful, brutal game. People get hurt. People get permanently injured.

It’s kind of sad, really.

But they are the modern gladiators. We love our bread and circuses.

Tomorrow, I’m back at it, teaching Exchange for a couple of weeks before I head out to Orlando on the 22nd.

I’ve enjoyed my little break from the classroom, but I’ll be happy to get back to what I know.

I hope your life is filled with love and hope.

Peace y’all.

Day 20,080

Saturday night, and Lisa and I are about to finish our little binge-watch of the Tom Clancy “Jack Ryan” series on Amazon Prime.

Hell of a show. Solid writing, great acting.

It’s been a weird day here, but a day with more than a little bit of positivity. The University of Kansas had a run of 49 straight road losses in football. The longest running losing streak in college football.

That changed today with the Kansas road win over the Central Michigan Chippewas, with a score of 31-7.

KU looked good.

I’m not going to get my hopes up. A part of me jokes that now is the time to check the Book of Revelations to ascertain whether or not a Kansas road win is one of the seven signs of the apocalypse.

Next week we hist Rutgers. Rutgers lost to Ohio State today. Badly.

I’m figuring Kansas will lose to Rutgers by a touchdown or two.

I’m a pretty negative guy at times. I was quite surprised by Kansas’ performance today.

But, reality sits on my shoulder and whispers.

Don’t get too excited. Manage your expectations.

When it comes to KU football, it’s important to keep your emotions in check.

Maybe one day I’ll be able to believe that.

Until then, I’ve got basketball season.

Peace y’all.

Day 20,079

Friday night here. Hope you are well.

Today I got up, did the morning breakfast thing, sticking to proteins (bacon and eggs). After that, I got to work on some labs, thinking about class for the next couple of weeks.  Worked to take a couple of other things off of my to-do list in anticipation of the Microsoft Ignite confeHis TV went belly up, and his car is small. I offered to help him get a new TV home, he took me up on it, and we went to get him a new 55″ television set.

I think my friend is happy tonight.

After I got home from that little sojourn, we pondered dinner, and I ended up heading over to Freddy’s to get a couple of burger and frozen treats. That went over pretty well.

Tomorrow, we’ve got a day. Lots of things that need to be attended to in the yard, the barn, and elsewhere. There’s grapes that need harvesting, as well, at a friend’s small vineyard.

KU plays football tomorrow. I’m not real enthusiastic about their chances.

Other than that, get some racks put up in the barn, maybe even a workbench or two. I need to get that space in order.

Peace y’all.

Day 20,078

I wish you a good evening. It’s me, once again, on a Thursday night early in September. The NFL season is underway, with the Eagles hosting the Falcons.

I could go on a dialog about the current Supreme Court justice hearings, or Trump’s unhinged rants and tweets.  I’m tired tonight. I did a little cleaning, quite a bit of prep work to get ready for my class next week, and a few other things around the house, but my enthusiasm for recapturing and regurgitating my day isn’t anything to write home about… and I didn’t plan that pun.

I have plenty to do tomorrow, however. Between work stuff and more to get done around here, I’m sure I’ll be ready for bed tomorrow night when the bell sounds.

There is no bell. It’s kind of a cliche… that makes no sense at all in this context.

I’ll work on that.

In the meantime, I’ll watch a little more football, maybe have a nightcap or a snack before I head to bed, and wonder how close I’m getting to my two hundred word commitment.

This weekend, football. Kansas plays on the road Saturday afternoon, and the Chiefs open their season on the road at 3:00 at the Los Angeles Chargers. They should still be in San Diego, but, what’s a guy to do? Hell, I have no idea where the Raiders are playing this season while they complete their new stadium in Las Vegas.

I’m good. Y’all be good, too!

Peace y’all.

Day 20,077

Good evening, gentle folks, and any of my progeny that had nothing better to do than read my blog.

It’s been an interesting day. God a little sick from cleaning up some stuff that I probably should have been wearing at least a mask while cleaning (insecticide). Some of it got into the air and I’m sure I breathed in some of it. No real worries, but it did lead me to feel a little bit out of it this afternoon and this evening.

A couple of things are going on in politics. There is a Supreme Court nominee, Kavanaugh, who is going through hearings right now. Can’t say I’m a fan of his opinions on presidential power. He really thinks that the person sitting in the Oval Office should have a little bit more control over things than is wise. It’s almost like he thinks that the President is above the law.

Nope. No American is above the law.

That really shouldn’t be a question.

The other thing that has happened is that Bob Woodward’s new book about the Trump administration, “Fear”, has left Tang the Conquerer up in arms about who said what in support of Woodward’s new book. Lots of interviews, lots of quotes, and lots of denials coming out of the West Wing right now. Apparently, Trump is quite up in arms over the whole thing.

His tweets show just how scared he is.

Peace y’all.

Day 20,076

Hello, gang! It’s Tuesday night here in Noria… that is correct.

I jumped into a mapping program, and I found out that the name of this area of Douglas County is listed as “Noria” on some maps.

I kind of like that name, primarily due to the rhyme with Moria from “The Lord of the Rings”.

Lisa had a rough night last night. Gracie is house sitting, and that means Colby is here with us, and that dog is used to sleeping with Gracie. Well, Lucy and Freya are used to sleeping with Lisa and me, and those two little dogs didn’t take too kindly to having an extra dog in the bedroom last night.

So, right now, she’s in her recliner, feet up, two small Yorkie-mixes on her lap, and my baby is sawing some logs.

And that’s just fine.

In other news, Bob Woodward, famous for his investigative journalism with Carl Bernstein during Watergate, has a new book coming out about the Trump White House.
Everyone has heard of it but what is known, is that sildenafil in usa they are a complex combination of, collective action individual behaviour, simple sensory experiences higher cognition stable characteristics of the individual the environment chance factors as Ruut Veenhoven states in his study. Depending on your doctor’s prescription, vardenafil pharmacy can be purchase in different doses 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg tablet form.

Looks like Trump will not be happy with this particular book.

Trump is melting down. He has to be losing his mind. It seems like every other day, there is some new embarrassing revelation about his administration that further compounds the image problem he has.

It’s a problem of his own making.

I hope we’ll be better off for it.

Peace y’all.

Day 20,075

Good evening, kids! It’s the old man, coming to you live once again from rural Douglas County, for whatever that’s worth.

Today is Labor Day, a day off for many Americans, where we recognize the American worker, and their contributions to the society we enjoy today.

Or, if you’re Trump, you get on social media and attack labor unions.

Yeah, I’m looking forward to the coming months. One thing you can pretty much count on in the current political climate, it most certainly will be interesting.

It’s getting to a point at times that I wonder if there will be some sort of retribution against me and mine due to my comments on this blog. I know it’s not going to make anybody’s hot 100 list of blogs, but I have been pretty blunt about my opinion of this administration and the guy at the top.

Meanwhile, I need to get my butt off to bed. It’s getting late, and even though I have a prep week this week, I need to get off to bed. I have a pretty full day tomorrow, and that means getting up at a reasonable time.

Be excellent to each other! (Look up that reference, watch the movie!)

Peace y’all.

Day 20,074

Hey kids, it’s the old man again, Grampa Bob coming to you live from rural Douglas County on the Sunday night that is September 2, 2018.

It’s gotta be a little weird for you, the reader. My intended audience is you, the grandchild, maybe great-grandchild that I know, or, sad for me, didn’t get a chance to know.

Don’t get too freaked out about it. I know what I’m trying to accomplish.

I’m about to turn fifty-five. On my dad’s side of the family, there have been more than a couple of significant family members that have passed at the age of 57. Trust me, that kind of thing kind of sticks in my mind. My dad is now 77 years old… beat that demon by twenty years.

I hope I live long enough to know you and share a laugh or two. The reality is, though, that I have to be mindful of my mortality.

Go hug your gramma. If I’m still around, some give me a hug, too.

Peace y’all.

Day 20,073

Hi, kids! It’s the old guy.

Yeah, it’s Saturday night in rural Douglas County. I just watched the University of Kansas lose to a D-!! school from Louisana.

Kansas Football sucks. It really does. At this point in time, I figure KU will not win a single game this football season, and we’ll have a new football staff sooner rather than later. Hell, it wouldn’t surprise me if the new athletic director cans the football coach this weekend yet.

I don’t care if you’re the worst team in a Power Five conference, you don’t open the season with a home overtime loss to Nicholls State. If it were North Dakota State, at least you could take note of the NDSU Bison’s string if lower-division national championships.

Man. That really sucked.

So… on another note, I’m a bit sore from getting stuff done today. Got up early and got going, licked up some items for the barn. More work to do tomorrow, but my workshop isn’t going to set up itself.

There’s a part of me that just wants to duck social media right now because I know that the jokes about Kansas football are going to be rough… and completely justified.

Time for some changes.

Peace y’all.

Day 20,072

Hey kids! It’s the old guy here again in rural Douglas County, just doing my thing. A recap of the day as I see it.

Apparently, last night at a rally – keep in mind at political rallies, you can screen the attendees – no opposition representation – Trump claimed to have stories that would make the front page if those stories had been about conservatives or Republicans.  No evidence to support his claims… which tends to be a trend with this clown. “I’ve got the evidence! We’ve got the evidence!”… and it never sees the light of day.

Substance. If you say you’ve got the goods, present the goods. If you blow smoke up people’s asses, they’re going to notice. The people aren’t stupid. We remember. We write stuff down and say, “hey, remember when you said…”. We’ll hold people’s feet to the fire and demand the evidence or a retraction.

I get so sick of this “I’ve got the evidence” line of crap that Trump keeps force feeding the populace. Some people eat it up… they are on it hook, line, and sinker. Don’t be that kind of stooge moving forward. If someone says they’ve got the proof, be a skeptic. Don’t just take their word for it. People will try to manipulate you if it suits their purpose.

The American political theater is rife with just that type of deception and abject horseshit right now.
