Evie Day 439
Good morning, and welcome to this holiday-shortened work week. Today is Tuesday, 28 May 2024.
First thing for me to do today is sort out my responsibilities for the week. I have an online presentation on Thursday morning, timed to reach as many interested parties around the world.
Friday, I have the dreaded return to the certification testing room, but I think I’ll be OK. I have a lot of studying to do before then, but we’ll get it knocked out and hopefully have a new certification to add to the wall.
Let’s see… the recap. Friday afternoon was what I hoped it would be, having an ice cream break with my youngest daughter and my granddaughter. Evie likes chocolate. She also likes wiping my mouth with a napkin when I have a little ice cream on my lip.
When I returned home from the ice cream social, I found both the lawn mower and the gator back from the John Deere dealer, and that was a bit of foreshadowing for Saturday’s primary tasks around the property.
We had a weekend. Sadly, on Saturday, my uncle Bob, my mom’s older brother, passed away at the age of 82. We share a name, as we were both given my grandfather’s, his father’s, middle name. I need to send something for the service.
Lisa and I went to Kansas City on Saturday to do a little shopping. It was a nice break from the house – I tend to not go places, these days. I work from home, and half the time when I get food I get it delivered. After we returned, I filled up the gas can and got busy with mowing and trimming.
Sunday was a family day for us, and yesterday was another day to pause and reflect on who we are, where we came from, and the sacrifices made along the way. My third great-grandfather was a soldier during the Civil War. His name was George Yenne. He enlisted to fight for the Union at the age of 42, leaving 9 children behind. He died at Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
I’ve had a number of family members serve in one capacity or another. Grampa Reinsch enlisted to fight in WWI. My great uncle fought in Korea. My uncle Jim served during the 60s, but never rotated to Vietnam. My dad’s brother, David, enlisted in the Navy. Both of my brothers stepped up. I stepped up as well, but I could not get past the physical.
It’s time to get focused.
I hope the world is treating you better than you deserve.
Peace y’all.
