OK, so here we go. It’s been a few days since I last wrote. Bonnie and Dane have moved home. Lisa and I are working, teaching from home. The dogs seem to really like the fact that there are humans around all of the time, so , I’m going to guess, it will be a bit of a wake up call for our four-legged friends when we have to get ourselves together and go back out into the world to do our jobs on-premises again.
This is not a great time to be in America, talking to those of you who are (hopefully?) my grandchildren. Grampa is kind of a grumpy but right now. I’m taking a look at the numbers grow, day after day. You all will have the benefit of a historical perspective… I’m not going to get all sad, and gloomy, all maudlin. Yeah, it kind of sucks. Some of my teammates worry that some of their family members have this crap. We’re all especially worried about friends and family that have been exposed to this novel coronavirus.
The virus is coronavirus. The disease is COVID 19.
This stuff is killing a lot of people.
I’m probably a bit blue at the moment, thinking about all of the gatherings that have been cancelled. Humans are social animals. We need each other. We need each other like wolves need packs and cattle needs herds.
And now we’re in this really weird time where we are being told to stay away from each other. And yet, here we are, aching for human contact.
I’m lucky. I have my family here. 2 of my 3 kids are here at the house, and the third is close by.
It’s April 2nd, 2020. I’ve been following the coronavirus numbers on the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Dashboard. I’m expecting to see the numbers double from Monday to Monday until we hit our peak, then hopefully, a drop off thanks to the social distancing.
My next business trip is scheduled for June.
This is a pretty crazy time to be alive in the world.
The numbers for today…

I have no idea how realistic these numbers are though. There are a couple of factors that throw things off…
First of all, we have no idea about the real Chinese numbers. There are any number of rumors floating around about cell phone number cancellations and the number of urns ordered to accommodate the mass cremations. Lots of speculation, very little substance to back up the claims other than “I heard from a guy that heard from a guy…”
(Just about what you would expect for any negative story coming out of China)
It’s kind of a crazy time, ya know? Our entire societal fabric has been disrupted.
Maybe some good can come from this that will help us all out, but it’s going to take time for this stuff to work itself out.
I hope the world is treating you better than you deserve.
Peace y’all.
