Saturday night in rural Douglas County, a crisp breeze blowing in from the north, gently.
Hi gang.
TIme for a little recap of my week. It’s been interesting. Oldest daughter went over to Ohio State on a grad school exploratory trip, youngest daughter making plans to move into her first real apartment, and the boy having a good week, coming in second at a College Bowl scholar competition.
I dealt with some issues teaching a two day class, but recovered nicely. Spent a little time making observations about the state of the world, had a guy that I have known since I was 13 pretty much let me know that he didn’t hold me in very high regard (middle-school bullies… some grow out of it, some don’t), and today the University of Kansas football team clawed and fought their way to a victory over Texas Christian University, 27-26. I’m guessing that downtown Lawrence’s bars will be operating in the black tonight.
The girls are all watching “Mama Mia II”. Not really my thing. I watched the first one a couple of times, and developed a strong enough opinion that I I know I don’t need to watch the sequel.
Tomorrow, the Kansas City Chiefs vie for their first divisional sweep of the season, taking on the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead. The Chiefs won at Mile High Stadium earlier this year and won. I’m hoping tomorrow affords more of the same.

I hope your life is rewarding you beyond expectations. Remember, you have value. Some people will call you vile names, maybe the sort of wounding statements they themselves suffered while growing up. You gotta shrug it off. In this life, you have to believe you have a purpose. You might not know what it is, yet, but keep chasing it. When you find it, you’ll discover a shield, an invulnerability that gives you the strength to look at those detractors right in the face and say, “I’m sorry you feel that way, but you’re wrong.”
Look in the mirror and say “I have value. I have a purpose. I make the world a better place”.
Say it, over and over.
I know we haven’t met yet, but I believe in you. I know where you came from.
Peace y’all.
