Day 20,003

It’s almost 9:00 in rural Douglas County and the sun is setting on one of the longest days of the year. Not the longest… I’m guessing either second or third longest.

Yeah, I’m not a real exciting person.

But today was a good day. Dane and I had put off his birthday lunch a couple of days, which was probably a good thing. The place where we had celebrated numerous birthdays of his in the past transitioned from “Yokohama” to “Sushi Ko”, and, although we never really had any complaints in the past, we certainly didn’t have any today.

We started off with our traditional Heart Attack appetizer, then moved onto the house specialty rolls… the Las Vegas Roll, the Kansas Roll, the Spicy Enough Roll, and then we topped it off with the Mountain. Oh, baby!

Because we were celebrating my son’s birthday, they tossed a dessert his way, some combination of fired Orea cookie, puffball ice cream, all buried under whipped cream and chocolate sauce.

Dane was not disappointed. In fact, he made a point of stopping me in the foyer of the restaurant to tell me how much he enjoyed out lunch together, and that this may have been our best birthday lunch ever.

That touched me a bit.

I am a blessed man.

Peace y’all.
