Day 19,693

Hi, my grandchildren and grandchildren.

Today is August 17, 2017.

Here in the United States, there is this guy named Trump that thinks that Nazis and Nazi protestors have the same degree of culpability. We have an ongoing debate about something that we really shouldn’t be debating about – whether we put statues in parks honoring military men that disowned their country, declared war on the United States of America, and took up arms against American troops because they determined that it was a state’s right to determine whether a human being (white) could own another human being (not white).

Our family was part of this at one point. In my genealogical research, I discovered multiple slave owners. At one point, Robert “King” Carter was the largest slave owner in Virginia. Another ancestor, Benjamin Harrison, was Governor of Virginia, and a prominent slave owner. Others were guilty of participation in this practice as well. I can’t do anything about the past.

I can sure as hell express my opinion on the subject in the future.

I renounce.

I renounce bigotry, racism, intolerance.

For all time.

Nope. I think I got it right.

Hope you get it right, too.
