Let me tell you, folks, the Dunning-Kruger effect is in full bloom in the United States these days.
For those that don’t know, DKE, is, at its most basic form, the idea that some folks are so oblivious to their own incompetence that it’s a waste of time to try and teach them otherwise.
I should correct myself. That wasn’t the most basic form.
You can’t fix stupid.
Any number of my acquaintances are listening and reading, staying on top of current events, and are starting to come around to the idea that maybe Trump isn’t the leader they were hoping for. It’s the constant whining and the perpetual references to the election that might be nudging them in that direction. The hints of the biggest scandal in US history might be a contributing factor.
I had a conversation with a victim of DKE the other day. I tried to provide him evidence that Trump was in trouble, and I used the May 9 Lester Holt interview as evidence of some of Trump’s shortcomings, pointing out that Trump’s statements regarding the firing of FBI Director Comey were problematic – you don’t fire somebody then admit that the Russia investigation was on your mind. I’ve got a bet with this guy. One year from today, if Trump is cleared of wrongdoing. I owe him a bottle. If the inquiry is still going on, it’s a stalemate for another year. If Trump is impeached or otherwise out of office in another year, I win the bet.

In reality, I don’t expect the guy to hold up his end of the bet when the time comes. He’ll manufacture some excuse or reason, then he’ll talk about the lack of honor progressives have, and how Trump’s army of supporters will be armed mobs in the streets rallying for their whiny, orange messiah.
